Come and discover an area that is home to sprawling and thriving vineyards that make award winning wines sold throughout Europe. Vineyards owned for generations by families whose incumbents still farm them in very much the same way as they always have. A wine growing region with an ancient history going back to the Moors who sent wines from Jalon to the Valencian Court and an area famous for its´ sweet dessert wine Mistela once favoured by the King of Spain. An area that is also a paradise for cyclists, walkers, hikers and lovers of nature.

This is a fantastic property for anyone who wishes for quality, style, privacy yet within walking distance to the local school, cafes, bars, restaurants and all the amenities. Jalon (Xalo in Valencia) is a lovely picturesque town in the stunning Jalon Valley widely known as the valley of wine (Vall de Pop). Being the biggest of all the villages in the valley Jalon has an array of various shops including artisan, a large supermarket (Mas y Mas), excellent butchers who make their own sausages with recipes handed down from generation to generation, bars, restaurants, cafes, pharmacy, local and international medical centres, bakeries selling cakes and pastries made from the local almonds to the famous savoury Bollas a type of pizza made with peas, several bodegas offering Moscatell a semi sweet wine which has won national and international awards, Mistela a dessert wine once a favourite of the King of Spain, cavas, full bodied reds and various whites all which can be tasted for free before purchase, plus locally made olive oil.

Jalon is also famous for its Saturday Rastro market which is huge and diverse in what bargains you can find and purchase. In the Old Square of Jalon, Plaza Major, there is a fountain around which there is an open market held on Tuesday mornings and artisan markets held on certain Saturdays throughout the year. Seen from the square is the famous Jalon Church with its blue dome.

Jalon was under Arabic domination for over five hundred years. The Arabians built two castles, one for the Solana (the Aixa) and another in the Bernia. Both fortresses controlled the Jalon Valley and the numerous settlers. The Arabians left behind the typical house style, for which Jalon is famous today, i.e. houses of stone and old bricks with large wooden doors as well as decorated walls.

The Arabic culture influenced life in Jalon up to its final displacement in the year 1609. After that, the trade with raisins became the major economic activity. Many farmers from Majorca settled in Jalon in the 18th and 19th centuries and started cultivating the land, concentrating on grapes and raisin production. Jalon hosts several “Fiestas” in particular the first two weeks in August with bull running, live music, dancing, fireworks and the third week in October which is the local Paella Fiesta.

There are local Spanish schools in Jalon and private International Schools within a short 20-minute drive that also offer a school bus service. Jalon has a sports centre and the area is both a walker and cyclists delight with routes for all levels. Horse riding, and golf are also activities that are within easy reach of Jalon. There is also an outdoor communal swimming pool open in the summer months for the locals to meet and enjoy. In late January, the whole of the Jalon valley floor is covered with a pink and white carpet of scented almond blossom attracting visitors from all over. You´ll find that time and life in Jalon is not measured by a clock but by the slow ever-changing colours of the beautiful countryside.

Despite its semi-rural setting access to Jalon remains easy thanks to the AP-7 motorway being within 5-10 minutes. Alicante airport is 1hr away and Valencia airport 1hr 10 mins. There is also a local bus service from Jalon to the city of Denia which passes through the villages on route, there is also a direct bus service from Denia to Valencia and from Denia you have a ferry service to Ibiza, Formentera, and Mallorca.

Another reason for buying here is the more stable population with year-round activity, compared to the coast which is more transient and seasonal. Many people also relocate to this area from various parts of Europe for the “Golf” and you are spoilt for choice with the various Golf courses nearby.

Northern Costa Blanca also features some of the aspects people most associate with Spain, olive groves, almond groves, vineyards, fertile valleys, and picturesque Spanish villages. The 15 minute car journey from the coast taking you through the Jalon Valley and the Orba Valley with the most stunning and breath-taking landscapes offers you a taste of “Real Spain”, an area dubbed Costa Blanca´s “Jewel in the Crown” by the British travel press. With a wealth of local Beaches and beautiful inland scenery, the Costa Blanca has the best all year-round temperatures and the climate is recognised as one of the best in the world by the World Health Organisation.

With on average 320 days of sunshine per year no wonder people from various parts of Europe are attracted to buying property here.
