Ocean Independence presents Slyder 80 – A sustainable Electric Catamaran
With expected completion in 2024, the brand-new SLYDER 80 is available for sale with Ocean Independence. This luxurious catamaran with electric motors uniquely combines performance, aesthetics and cutting-edge technology within one exciting concept.
Collaborating with German yacht designer Matthias Krenz, an experienced manufacturer of luxury hybrid catamarans, MAVEA Yachts have created a universally advanced design. Equipped with a serial hybrid drive, PLC electrics and the typically simple operation associated with Slyder catamarans, the SLYDER 80 is also technologically state-of-the-art.
In line with the renowned Slyder “see the difference and feel the difference” DNA, the catamaran’s performance, and design are primary features, blended perfectly with emphasis on lifestyle and luxury. Following various shape studies, a catamaran design was created that visually harmonizes all these key elements. The overall aesthetic is determined by the shoulder line, which represents a new standard in the Slyder catamaran design catalogue, yet the typically high hull and a flat body augment the sailing performance.
The SLYDER 80 combines the elegance of a Café Racer monohull with the performance and space of a luxury catamaran. “At the heart of the development was the desire for a fast, fun, luxurious, spacious and future-proof catamaran,” says Markus Kuhner, Managing Director at MAVEA Yachts. “Slyder catamarans allow even small crews to sail safely and easily, deliver the highest seaworthiness and quality, as well as provide an ambience in which to feel good at sea. The SLYDER 80 is no exception, plus it has the “Sports-Fly” (SLY-FLY). This was specifically developed for this model and offers space and safety, so giving fellow sailors the opportunity to participate in an exhilarating sailing experience.”
Outstanding features of the SLYDER 80 are its carbon construction, large solar panels, two electric motors and an impressive 38m2 main saloon, which offers multiple amenities as well as a day head. There is comfortable accommodation for a total of 8 guests on board, with a headroom of 2.20m inside, meaning that a wonderful sense of space is felt throughout. The new Slyder has an LOA of 24.40m with a 10.80m beam, plus a 215m2 mainsail with three reefs and 2 x 70-100 kW electric motors with shaft drive. Under power, the carbon catalytic converter cruises at 10 knots, and under sail it reaches 24 knots and more.
An exciting proposition for sailing enthusiasts looking to build a high-tech and well-appointed catamaran for thrilling adventures on the water.
