Design Week Marbella is born. The international design event

Design Week Marbella is the new international event conceived as an expo-festival in which to discover the latest trends and innovations in interior design, architecture and construction, festival unlike any other previously held in terms of concept, organization, structure and responsibility, with an original and professional approach, high in academic content and local involvement.

This first edition of Design Week Marbella is the meeting point where the most recognized firms and designers of reference in the sector will be present and will take place at the Trade Fair, Convention and Exhibition Center in Marbella from September 27 to October 3, 2021.

Marbella, Capital of International Design

Marbella seeks to become through Design Week Marbella in the capital of design, decoration and interior architecture. Undoubtedly a strategic project and the best showcase for the city, both nationally and internationally.

The fact is that the city of Malaga has everything to become an international benchmark for design. A privileged natural landscape of sea and mountains, an unbeatable climate, the best selection of hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, beaches, marinas, palaces, luxury boats and golf courses and a charming old town. Undoubtedly, the most beautiful places to visit. A stroll through its streets is to attend a great world exhibition of contrasts, style and creativity, a showcase in which to discover the most renowned architects, designers and interior designers from around the world. We can affirm that Marbella is considered the capital of luxury.

And Design Week Marbella is one of the best opportunities to access one of the most exclusive and interesting markets in Europe. Its high income community expands from Sotogrande, through Estepona and La Cala de Mijas. An international community that brings to Marbella a unique degree of exclusivity. The target audience to be attracted by this great design event is also very exclusive: architects, builders, high net worth clients, investors, real estate companies and developers, as well as international residential tourism on the Costa del Sol.

Prominent names who have already joined the project

This first edition of Design Week Marbella has already included in its project professionals of recognized national and international prestige. We highlight some of them:

Design Week Marbella brand ambassador Francisco Segarra, a national and international reference in the creation of unique environments with a very personal, timeless and visionary style, will be the Brand Ambassador of Design Week Marbella. A luxury ambassador who will also contribute with his creative vision as designer of the VIP area of the event.

Segarra is the pioneer of vintage and industrial style in our country, a daring fusion between past and present that broke with minimalist design and implemented a new trend that has become his hallmark in all his interior design projects. His countless furniture creations stand out in projects for the hospitality industry such as Roto in Ibiza, Tokyolima in Hong Kong or Burdo in Colombia; fashion stores, franchises and stylish hotels such as Kube in Paris; or sets for top programs such as Maestros de la Costura and MasterChef Celebri-ty. His complete interior design concepts include Café del Art, Pizzart, Playachica, The Chatter Café franchise or the Vilasira Rooms and Wines hotel.

The prestigious designer Carlos Gimeno, CEO and founder of SOUL Arquitectura Interior studio will be Design Week Marbella’s guest of honor, as well as part of the Selection Committee. For DWM it is a real luxury to have its unmistakable hallmark, where the beauty of symmetry, the elegance of pure lines, visual cleanliness and light are the protagonists.

Sara Folch Interior Design, one of the most prestigious interior architecture studios in Europe, will present exclusively at Design Week Marbella the first fully domotized kitchen to be manufactured and patented in Europe. An absolutely pioneering proposal that goes beyond design and technology, and has been conceived by the Barcelona studio together with Nel’la Design, a reference firm in the manufacture of high-end kitchens, using the most innovative systems.

Spaces with soul and style that reflect the passion for design, for the essence and personality in each creation. His interior design and landscaping projects range from luxury residences to high standing offices, contract or design spaces such as the Oliva Iluminación showroom.

With more than 23 years of international experience in Africa, Europe and the Middle East (where she has worked for the past five years), Yannic Leveque is one of the most recognized professionals in the high-end architecture world. She is also a pioneer: the first woman to direct a project in the United Arab Emirates of the scale of the DMCC Uptown Tower (334 m and 78 floors) in Dubai. Also, in the UAE capital, she managed the construction of the New Royal Atlantis Hotel & Residences, a luxury mega-hotel with 795 rooms, 231 residences and 18,000 m2 of leisure areas. Among her numerous international projects, Leveque has participated in the renovation of the European Parliament buildings in Strasbourg, Jean Nouvel’s Parc Mallorca, a maritime station in the Port of Barcelona for Grimaldi Lines, residential and mixed-use projects in Gabon and the Congo…

José Arroyo is synonymous with “non- preconceived interior design”, improvisation as a working method, letting himself be carried away by the sensations that each space transmits to him. Each of his projects is defined by timelessness, uniqueness and the use of noble materials, plants and lighting fixtures to bring warmth. Pure eclecticism and passion for volumes and light. A style and a way of creating that have earned him the recognition of the industry within and beyond our borders.

Throughout his more than 20 years in the field of interior design, Arroyo has developed projects, always unique, in very different environments: restaurants (Misska, Café Saigon, Bistro Bermeo), fashion stores (Atelier Qukoa), beauty salons (I’m Miu), nightclubs (Budha, Lust) and private residences. In Design Week Marbella Carlos Arroyo will be responsible for the artistic direction of the entire pavilion.

Raquel Oliva, vice-president of Oliva Iluminación and creator of the luxury lamps firm Raquel Oliva Collection, will be the Chair of the Selection Committee of Design Week Marbella. Her life has always been linked to light and design, through the family business, she has worked with the best designers, interior designers and architects in the country and has driven the internationalization of the company, now present in more than 40 countries. Her latest business initiative is the creation of her own designer lamps firm, Raquel Oliva Collection, handmade pieces in “capsule” collections, with a certain number of lamps per model to ensure their exclusivity.

Promoters, sponsors and supporters of the project

In addition, this first edition of Design Week Marbella has the support of leading firms in the industry, which will make DWM the real reference exhibition in the capital of Malaga. Maderas Santaella as promoter of DWM, Elite Excellence-Spanish Federation of Luxury, or Finsa, the Spanish leader in the manufacture of sustainable wood and innovative solutions for interior design and architecture, whose participation goes beyond being an official sponsor of the event: the exhibition tour will be built with material from the Spanish firm, presenting its latest wood-based solutions in a novel way.

The Principality of Andorra will also occupy a special place in this Design Week, as the guest country of Design Week Marbella. Likewise, the event is endorsed by the Trade Fair, Convention and Exhibition Center in Marbella and personally by its director, Miguel Luna, who was also Director of Tourism of Marbella and creator of the Marbella Destino 5 Estrellas label. In fact, the latest technology in luxury hotels will have a prominent presence at Design Week Mar-bella, with an area reserved for associations of this sector, essential in our country. The Convention Center is undoubtedly the best imaginable scenario because of its facilities, its commitment to the avant-garde and its privileged location, in the heart of one of the most attractive cities in the world.
